IM&P (CUPS) Server, Blank (Admin Page) page after upgrade from 9.x to 10.5

Yes, another upgrade and more with it. This one was very special and I was totally blaming myself after the TAC engineer helped me figure it out.

I was always told, or I remember it was good practice to always get the latest Upgrade file from CCO Downloads page for everything. Well I did that and found myself into an issue.

The scenario:

Customer Upgrading CUCM, CUC and IM&P servers from 9.1.2 to Version 10.5 (No issue here):

  • Downloaded Media from CCO – In the perfect world the order of operations is to use Cisco PUT First – CCO login Required, instead of using PUT
    • Downloaded CUCM 5.1.10000-7.
    • Downloaded IM&P5.1.11900-5 (SU1)
  • Upgraded all software and it went great, perfect, no issues!

After everything upgraded to the new version seemed ok from SSH and everything was working properly except the Admin page of IM&P. Also noticed that the Sync Agent Service was not running.

The TAC engineer that was helping me figure this one out told me that it was an issue with a known bug CSCup88194 – which he connected and ran couple of commands under root access and it didn’t fix the issue.

The issue:

  • I downloaded that IM&P version 5.1.11900-5 (SU1) and made it bootable (my way!! – I have no time to wait to get my media files from Cisco, or better yet use ones that I have already downloaded)
  • This Release is an SU, not bootable and is required in order to fix issues with other related bugs.

So I soon realized that the best way to fix the issue was to just to install the IM&P server again from ZERO, because in case I had to go back to V9.1 I would have to do the Downgrade the CUCM 10.5 to 9.x, which was already done (no time for that).

Installing the version provided by PUT fixed the issue.

Quick Complaint!! – No really

I think that this should have showed up on the ReadMe File, but again I should have downloaded the PUT version. Link to the SU1 File:

Advise:

Always use the order of operations; it doesn’t hurt if you take time to do your planning, and it helps you prevent unexpected outcomes. From now on I will use PUT more and keep a library with the media in order to do upgrades.
